Working with Galway farmers was ‘a pleasure’ — Canavan
Confidence in suckler farmers
STEPHEN Canavan was busy in the final few months of his term as Galway IFA Chair, something that marked the four years he was in the position for.
The Ballyglunin farmer attended IFA Branch AGMs around the county in November and December. He was in Brussels and Dublin for protests and discussions on the proposed EU-Mercosur deal at the end of the year, before the rolling IFA protest outside Bord Bia’s head offices came along in recent weeks.
His four-year term came to an end last Thursday at the Galway IFA AGM, and it was a role that he enjoyed.
“Sometimes I wondered what the hell I was at taking on the job, but in general dealing with our own farmers in Galway was always a pleasure,” said Canavan, a member of the Corofin-Ballyglunin IFA branch.
“I did find going up and down to Dublin difficult, I was out of my comfort zone in some of the meetings. I made some great friends from around the county and the country.”
