Musicians, singers and dancers gather for Ceol an Gheimhridh
Event hosted by Corofin CCE
COROFIN Comhaltas has had a busy few weeks as musicians, singers and dancers prepare for this year’s Ceol an Gheimhridh, which will take place in Cummer NS this Sunday, January 25.
The event reflects the strong tradition of music in the parish and the commitment of families, tutors and volunteers who continue to support young people at every stage of their musical journey.
Corofin CCE is especially grateful to St Colman’s NS, Cummer for the use of their facilities and for their long-standing support of traditional music. Over many years, the school has seen many talented musicians progress from school level to county, provincial and All-Ireland stages. The branch also welcomes participation from pupils attending other schools across the area.
Many of the Corofin tutors and committee members themselves progressed through the ranks of various Fleadhanna Cheoil, an experience that continues to inform the supportive and inclusive approach taken within the branch.
Chair of Corofin CCE Paddy Tyrell said, “We are very proud of the standard of music in Corofin, but just as importantly we want people to feel welcome and supported. Ceol an Gheimhridh is about participation as well as performance, and there is a place for everyone.”
Lead Tutor Leah Grealish added, “There is a great buzz among the students this year. They have worked incredibly hard, and of course we would love to see a few more county medals coming back to the parish, but just as important is seeing young people grow in confidence, pride and love for the music.”
Corofin CCE encourages participation at all levels, from beginners to experienced competitors, and aims to foster confidence and enjoyment in traditional music among young people across the parish and wider area.
The weekend will include Fleadh Mass on Saturday evening, followed by a music session in Rafferty’s. Competitions will commence at 10am on Sunday, January 25 in Cummer school.
Corofin Comhaltas looks forward to welcoming competitors, families and members of the local community to the weekend’s events.
