Ladies to lead St Patrick’s Day parades

TOWNS and villages throughout north Galway will transform into a sea of green this weekend as St Patrick’s Day celebrations bring communities together.

From Abbeyknockmoy to Tuam, and several towns and villages in between, people young and old will display a feast of creativity as they celebrate our patron saint.

Two parades will be led by ladies who are pillars of their communities in Headford and Tuam, with Mary Murphy leading the festivities in Headford, while former Tuam Community Council founder Cora McNamara will take pride of place at the head of Tuam’s parade.

The first parade to take to the streets will be in Mountbellew at 12 noon on Sunday, with participants embracing the theme of sheep and sheep shearing in advance of the All-Ireland Sheep Shearing and the International Five Nations competitions being held in the town in June…
