Yonkers Detective with a great grá for Tuam

GROWING up Aislinn Gormally always wanted to be an FBI agent and so her appointment last month as a detective in Yonkers, New York, has put her well on her way to making a dream come true.

Tuam and Lavally have been a second home for Aislinn who spent many of her teenage years living on the town’s outskirts, going to Presentation College, Currylea, and playing football with Tuam-Cortoon LGFC.

Born in New York and one of six children of Bernadette and Thomas (Tommy) Gormally, Aislinn told The Tuam Herald that she always wanted to join the police force.

And the force seems to run a bit in the family as unusually both she and her brother Patrick graduated from the Police Academy on the same day.

Aislinn’s official swearing in ceremony was a special and very proud occasion for her family. Dad Tommy is originally from Lavally and her maternal grandparents are also Irish.

“I still feel like I’m playing dress up,” laughed Aislinn, as she commented on her promotion at the end of last month…
