Comeback kids Dunmore aiming for the double

WHEN Dunmore Community School found themselves 2-14 to 0-11 down against Roscommon CBS with 43 minutes on the clock in their Connacht PPS Senior B semi-final, it would have taken a brave punter to back the North Galway school, writes Ivan Smyth.

Even with the wind at their backs it would take an almighty gale force comeback to overturn their nine-point deficit. However, Dunmore CS, who face Carrick on Shannon Community School in the decider in Bekan (NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE) this Saturday at 1pm, managed to bag three goals in as many minutes to turn the pulsating contest on its head.

There was still work to be done but Padraig Martyn netted his fourth goal and completed his hat-trick to give Dunmore CS the lead, before goalkeeper Chris Donnellan produced a brilliant stop to deny Roscommon CBS’ Eoin Martin a goal in the 59th minute.

From there, Dunmore CS powered through with joint manager Carlos O’Gara proud of how his side dug in to grind out the victory…
