Author gives ‘Parky’ a home

New book highlights importance of animal rescue shelters

A DOG lover from Tuam has released a children’s book which aims to teach children about animal rescue shelters and the importance of the work that they carry out there.

In October, Louise O’Connor-Mulhall, who was raised in Fairgreen Heights, held an official book launch at Charlie Byrnes Bookshop for Parky finds a new Home, a fictional story based on a dog’s search to find a new home.

Louise, who regularly volunteers with both MADRA and GSPCA, says she wanted to shed some light on the struggles of the organisations following a post-Covid surge in dogs being surrendered and the overwhelming number of canines being found abandoned, malnourished, or injured.

The book, which is for all children from pre-school age and above, was illustrated by Ana Slattery of Tribes Press and took Louise only a matter of weeks to write…
