Tuam pupils to be part of flu vaccine campaign

THE Chief Medical Officer Breda Smyth was in Tuam on Friday, visiting pupils of Trinity Primary School to talk about the flu vaccine for children.

Professor Smyth spoke with children in senior infants along with their parents about the benefits of the free nasal spray flu vaccine programme. Her visit was also filmed as part of a promotional campaign to be soon launched.

This year for the first time, the vaccine is being administered to senior infant children in primary schools, as well as children of all ages in special primary schools.

The vaccine is also available free of charge through GPs and pharmacies nationwide. Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly announced last week that the vaccine is now being extended, from Monday December 4, to children aged 13 to 17, and it is now available to all children aged two to 17…
