Horror as ‘thugs’ destroy road signs

Cllr fearful of accident

THE culprits who destroyed road safety signs near a national school and two other junctions nearby have been lambasted by a local councillor. Sometime between 10-12pm on Saturday night, several signs, including a stop sign and a school safety sign, were targeted near Cahergal School between Tuam and Abbeyknockmoy.

Cllr Pete Roche said residents are horrified by the damage caused, which he said has resulted in a serious traffic safety risk, especially in the hours of darkness.

He believes those responsible had to use a vehicle to pull or knock the signs which are embedded in concrete. “These are acts of wilful blagardism,” Cllr Roche told The Tuam Herald. “It beggars’ belief why someone would do such a thing.”
