Tuam Herald hat-trick at Media Awards

THERE were great celebrations at the Bloomfield House Hotel near Mullingar last Thursday evening, when The Tuam Herald was crowned winners in three categories at the eighth annual Local Ireland Media Awards.

Staff photographer Ray Ryan got the evening off to a flying start when picking up the Best Photograph gong for his picture of Galway hurler Conor Cooney winking as he was offered a sweet by a supporter in the post-match celebrations. The caption read: ‘Sweet Success’.

Contributor Mary Ryan was feted for her impressive body of work, Women Who Dared 2, in the ‘Best Supplement’ category, while journalist Jacqueline Hogge was named ‘Columnist of the Year’ for her thought-provoking article on gender violence in the wake of Aisling Murphy’s murder in January 2022.

In all, 16 awards were presented, with The Tuam Herald also nominated in the ‘Best Use of Photography’ category for a collage of photographs on Galway senior footballers’ historic first night playing a FBD League game in the Connacht Dome in Bekan.
