The joys of Market Day

Sweet treats, wide smiles and welcome home hugs

BUGGIES and bric-a-brac were en vogue at the 39th Dunmore Traditional Market Day, where hundreds turned out to catch up with friends, have a wander and brave the amusements, if they dared.

Stalls were being set up from early on Thursday morning and there was a noticeable showing of young entrepreneurs this year.

Brownsgrove’s Aidan Rattigan had been there since 8.30am and was cheerfully manning his second-hand toy stall – a family tradition for over a decade. Two of his happy customers were modelling their bright yellow fireman helmets – a purchase that would certainly help find the young brothers on the bustling street.

Chocolate and multi- coloured sprinkles covered a range of baked goods along the stall strip, where young bakers tempted passers-by with sweet smiles and treats. Creatively decorated buns, ribbon-tied packs of popcorn and cake lollipops were being eagerly assessed and digested as the afternoon progressed…
