Galway Races could not have got off to a better start

THERE wasn’t a person leaving the gates at Ballybrit who looked unhappy and the start to the Galway Races couldn’t have gone any better, according to Manager Michael Moloney.

Despite morning downpours, the rain cleared, and the sun came out to warm punters up by late afternoon. Numbers through the turnstiles were up on last year and close to 17,000 attended on Monday evening.

“The atmosphere was great. There was plenty of craic and music. It was certainly a very successful start,” Michael Moloney told The Tuam Herald.

There are in the region of 1,500 people working on the course this week and Michael quipped that it was the first day for everyone! “Post Covid we’ve had a lot of young people working here and they’ve been unbelievable – so friendly, down to earth and eager to interact with the customers. They’re a credit.”
