Crowds gather for World Transplant Games silver medallist Teresa Smyth in Williamstown

A BRASS band walked Teresa Smyth into Williamstown village on Sunday evening.

Teresa had been away in Australia from her home in the townland of Beagh for more than two months and fitted a lot into her time Down Under. She was one of 14 people representing Ireland in the World Transplant Games in Perth from April 15 to 21, winning a silver medal in darts and competing in table tennis and bowling.

Not to be satisfied with those fine efforts, Teresa stayed on in Perth to help out her daughter Rachael after she gave birth to a baby girl, Ruth, last month.

“Oh my God, it was something else! I cannot tell you how surprised I was [about the homecoming]. Everyone from the home parish was there, it was unreal,” said Teresa the day after the Castlerea Brass and Reed Band had accompanied her into Williamstown for her homecoming...
