Galway Airport can be a solution to lack of big venues for Galway gigs

GALWAY airport could be used to host large scale music concerts, arts and sporting events if discussions between the local authority and promoters prove successful.

The lack of venues for large scale gigs in the county was highlighted at this month’s plenary meeting of Galway County Council, held in County Hall on Monday.

Lackagh councillor David Collins proposed a motion, seconded by his Fine Gael colleague Cllr Andrew Reddington, that the council look at the feasibility of allowing concerts and other public arts events to take place at the airport site.

Cllr Collins pointed to last week’s sell out Saw Doctors concerts as evidence of the huge demand for a venue large enough to accommodate the numbers wishing to attend such gigs…
