Philip Treacy endorsement gives North Galway Junk Kouture fashionsitas huge boost

FROM vaping tubes to Ukrainian sunflowers, the creative possibility of recycled fashion in north Galway will be showcased at the regional finals of this year’s Junk Kouture competition, with an endorsement from world-renowned millner and Ahascragh native Philip Treacy for one of the designs.

The annual competition inspires Transition Year students to recycle and repurpose common and not so common household items into wearable fashion.

It returns to an in-person event this year, after the pandemic forced it online for the past two years.

Three schools from north Galway — Clarin College Athenry; Mercy Secondary School Tuam; and Presentation College Tuam — are all submitting entries into the Western Regional finals, which take place on March 2 at the Royal Theatre in Castlebar.
