Williamstown Cllr calls for more ways to pay for city parking

COUNCILLOR Declan Geraghty has called on Galway County Council to once again engage with their city colleagues as issues relating to paying for parking continue.

Galway City Council launched its new parking app in December 2024. Since then, parking machines located throughout the city have slowly been taken out of service in a bid to get visitors to pay online or by visiting selected Payzone retailers in nearby stores.

“I brought up the issue of parking last month, how many people in the county are struggling to pay,” commented the Williamstown Councillor during a recent plenary meeting.

“I came in here today and we were all greeted by literature teaching us how to use their app. That booklet won’t help the elderly people of the county. I urge our CEO to bring this issue up again with the CEO of the City Council.”

The information booklet, which is titled ‘Parking Made Easy for our Visitors’, was distributed to councillors and staff. It gave a step-by-step guide of how to pay for parking, alongside a list of shops where visitors to Galway city can still pay for parking in person via cash or card.
