Recruitment of Director for Tuam Home site begins

Excavation not expected to start until 2023

THE recruitment campaign for the person who will lead the planned excavation of the former Tuam Mother and Baby Home site has begun.

Applicants are now being sought by the Public Appointments Service to take up the position of Director of Authorised Intervention Tuam.

The role, along with a Tuam office, is being established under the new Institutional Burials Bill that was signed into law earlier this year.

Minister for Children Roderic O’Gorman had previously indicated that he was eager to start the planned excavation of the former home site on Dublin Road as quickly as possible. While it was hoped that work would start before the end of this year, this is unlikely…
