Youthreach students welcome MEP

Maria Walsh visit marked World Mental Health Day

STUDENTS at Youthreach Tuam hosted a special guest this week to mark World Mental Health Day, as MEP Maria Walsh paid the Airglooney school a visit.

The Shrule native has served as a member of the European Parliament since 2019 and has made mental health advocacy a corner stone of her political career.

She spoke with students about mental health and told of her own struggles, while also speaking of the work she was now doing to improve access to mental health services throughout the European Union.

The Fine Gael MEP was also asked about her pre political time in the Defence Force Reserves and she spoke to the group about her political life and how she was working to make politics more accessible to younger people.

Brenda Ivers, Youthreach Coordinator Tuam, said students and staff were delighted that Maria took the time to visit the Centre…
