Over 450 pupils battle it out

21 all-girl teams take part for first time in St Jarlath’s blitz

SOME 450 children from local primary schools in North Galway made up 45 teams that took to the sports field at St Jarlath’s College in Tuam for one of its largest football blitzes to date.

For the first time, 21 all-girls teams took part in the annual event – reflecting the historic decision earlier this year that the school will become a co-ed school from next September.

The games began at 10am and the standard on show was exceptional throughout, with each pupil and school giving their all.

Defending champions, Ballinderry National School, emerged as victors in the Boy's Shield Final, while Donaghpatrick National School claimed the Cup after an excellent battle against Annagh Hill.
