Traditional music and market day also to entice visitors

SAM MAGUIRE won’t be around unfortunately, but a sizeable amount of craic is in store for the 10 days of the Dunmore Festival.

The popular summer festival is back and runs from Friday until Sunday August 7.

This Sunday night (July 31) marks the festival’s official opening night. A ‘Shindig in the Square’ starts off the entertainment, with local man Eoin Mullins and his band set to get those gathered dancing, before Country and Western music singer Stuart Moyles keeps patrons in full flow at 8.30pm.

The Garrafrauns to Dunmore 6km Road Race is on the Bank Holiday Monday at 2pm, along with the Sports Day in the Fairgreen (3pm).

The cups for the Road Race are named after James Murphy, originally from the townland of Lissyconnor. He was a cross-country Irish and UK National champion and competed in the five-miles final at the 1908 Olympics.
