Planners refuse proposal for Lidl store in Athenry

Houses and supermarket turned down for second time

PLANNING permission has been refused for a second time for a proposed development in Athenry which would include a €10 million Lidl discount supermarket and 59 residential units.

The most recent application was made in December of last year by Ghost Zapper Ltd, owned by well-known billionaire property developers, the Comer family, who last week also had a takeover bid of Galway United FC accepted.

Confirmation of the refusal was made known by Galway County Council’s planning section in recent days.
