Risks posed by shortage of home help staff across Galway being assessed by HSE

THE HSE is carrying out a risk assessment in relation to the shortage of Health Care Support Assistants (HCSAs) in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon.

A shortage of care assistants in the public and private sector means that care hours are being prioritised for those most in need until further staff can be recruited.

Nearly three quarters of those waiting on the HSE’s Home Support list in Galway city and county are existing clients who need extra hours. There are currently 212 people waiting for home care support and of these 155 are receiving some support, but are waiting for additional hours.
