Clonberne’s community effort sees Johnny’s Well restored to glory

ALMOST a year after restoration work was started on Johnny’s Well, the Clonberne community has gathered to celebrate its official opening to the public.

The historic well, located in Ballyedmond, is believed to be over 300 years old. The landmark had fallen into neglect, with briars and vegetation hiding the structure for many years following the introduction of piped water to the parish through the Boyounagh Ballyedmond Group Water Scheme.

Last year however a group was set up by Clonberne Community Development Committee (CCDC) to restore the well to its former glory, with members of the local Community Employment Scheme enlisted to help with the project.
