Objector fails in bid to halt new Tuam residential care unit

A SERIAL objector has failed in his attempt to have planning permission for a new multi-million residential care and dementia centre in Tuam overturned.
Liam Madden from Co Longford lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanala last year against Galway County Council’s decision giving the HSE development the go-ahead.
The new centre has been proposed for Tuam for many years and has taken considerable time to progress. An Bord Pleanala’s green light gives it the final go ahead and the new building will replace the existing community nursing unit Aras Mhuire on Dublin Road which it’s considered will no longer be fit for purpose in the near future.
The development on a greenfield site between the Ambulance Base and Primary Care Centre on the Purcell Road will provide a 50-bed residential care centre in a two-storey courtyard building with adjoining service and daycare wings.
