Shut shops to become homes

SHOPS that have been shut, many for years, in small towns and villages across North Galway may be refurbished as homes with VAT rebates for the owners-occupiers who refurbish them.
That is according to Minister Sean Canney, as part of the Government’s Rural Action Plan.
“This can happen in towns such as Tuam, Milltown, Headford, Dunmore, Mountbellew and other similar ones across North Galway.
“It is a good incentive that those buildings, many which had private residences as part of them in the past anyway, can now be refurbished by the owner-occupiers who can claim 13.5 per cent VAT back for doing so,” says Minister Canney.
