Roscommon could ease Galway's A&E pain

AT a time when the Emergency Department of Galway University Hospital (GUH) is suffering severe overcrowding, the new Minor Injury Unit at Roscommon University Hospital is a godsend for people from parts of North and East Galway who can use its seven-days-a-week service for less serious injuries.
Several doctors in Tuam and surrounding areas are encouraging patients to use the minor injury unit and the hospital’s new Endoscopy Unit.
On Tuesday the number waiting on trolleys at Galway University Hospital was 60. There was also severe overcrowding at the Emergency Dept at Portiuncula, Ballinasloe.
Elaine Prendergast, from Dunmore, who is General Manager at Roscommon University Hospital, says they are encouraging more patients from North and East Galway to use the facility.
