Memories of election times in 1969

SEEING the day that is in it we had a look through our archives and found this gem from 1969.

The photo was taken outside a polling station in Tuam in 1969 and we're pretty sure the canvassers are Brian Talty, Seamus Prendergast, Paul Cosgrove and Francis Burke. Let us know if you think we're right or wrong.

Meanwhile there has been a steady turnout at polling stations across the local constituencies so far with an upturn in numbers expected later this afternoon and after 6 pm.

However, in more rural parts of Galway East and Roscommon Galway the polling stations have seen a higher footfall.

Voters have until 10 pm to cast their vote and remember to bring your polling card or a form of ID with you.

Don't forget The Tuam Herald newsroom team will be out and about reporting from the count centres from early tomorrow morning, so check our Facebook page and www.tuamherald.ie for news on what's happening on the ground. From the tallies until the last seat is filled – we'll be there.
