FUNDING for a new bus lane on the N17 into Galway will shorten bus journeys but the plan needs to be progressed immediately to combat the horrific congestion faced by the thousands of commuters travelling the route. Pressure is also mounting to have the Tuam by-pass opened ahead of the motorway route schedule of 2018.
Private bus operator Pat Burke says traffic levels have risen in recent months and are now equal to the boom times of 2005 with motorists and bus passengers having to endure increased congestion into both Tuam and Galway city.
