Glenamaddy CS edge out Mercy Tuam to retain Connacht title

IT HAS been an incredible few years for all involved in ladies football at Glenamaddy Community School and on Friday afternoon they added another milestone achievement to the ever-growing list, putting Connacht Senior A titles back-to-back after taking a game of fine margins against Scoil Bhríde, Mercy Tuam.
The stars of their success in recent years — the Ward twins, Nicola and Louise, as well as Megan Heneghan and Mary Fahy — may have all left, but the show continues to go on and they’ll once again represent Connacht as they bid to add more national honours to the All-Ireland Senior A, Senior B and Junior A crowns won in recent times.
While they celebrated, it was difficult not to think of the Mercy and how close they came to adding a Senior A title to their B success in 2015. The school has made massive strides coming up through the grades and on another day it could so easily have tilted in favour of Alan Molloy’s team.
