Galway ease into FBD final

THOSE who braved the biting Tuam Stadium cold witnessed a satisfactory second half performance from Galway, who eased into the Connacht FBD League final.
GMIT were primed for a battle at the outset causing Galway plenty of problems in the opening period, but Kevin Walsh’s team improved considerably after the restart. Having been backed by a strong wind initially Galway only led 0-6 to 0-4 at the break, but the favourites ruled the third quarter.
That is when the real damage was done as Galway reeled off six points without reply to seize the initiative. Val Daly’s plucky students did fight until the bitter end with the impressive Joseph Donnellan poking a late consolation goal, but Galway were never in any serious danger in the closing stages.
