AN eventful Galway GAA Convention on Monday night in the Lough Rea Hotel & Spa witnessed Noel Treacy re-elected as County Chairman after surviving a three-man challenge.
Seeking his fifth year at the helm, Treacy passed the quota of 119 on the third count ahead of John Fahy, John Joe Holleran and Michael Regan.
A busy night was expected after a 2015 that saw the Galway hurling impasse between manager Anthony Cunningham and his senior players dominate headlines following the All-Ireland final in September. But much more was discussed, including the announcement of Cyril Farrell as the new Honorary President while clubs also expressed concern regarding their sub-committees’ diminishing powers.
But the election of a new chairman was the chief talking point coming and Treacy’s ratification was announced at 11.45pm.
