Connacht prepare for crucial Stephen’s Day clash with Ulster

By Cian O’Connell

THROUGHOUT an encouraging start to the season fortune has frequently favoured Connacht, but Sunday’s European Challenge Cup defeat to Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park was a setback.
While Connacht still occupy a healthy position in an awkward pool the growing injury list remains a huge concern. Newcastle were sufficiently potent and powerful to shrug off Connacht’s spirited resistance in the second half of that contest.
Connacht will be anxious to summon a sharp response when Ulster visit the Sportsground on St Stephen’s Day (kick-off: 6 o’clock). It promises to be an exacting and revealing 80 minutes for Connacht, who have been efficient at the College Road venue this term.
