Parking freeforall with two hour window

THERE was good news for motorists tired of feeding parking meters in major county towns such as Tuam, Athenry and Ballinasloe this week as members of Galway Co Council have agreed on a proposal to allow free parking for two hours during the day.
However, council official are less than pleased with the idea of two free hours at any time of the day as they fear it will lead to a parking free-for-all and a significant loss of revenue coming into the authority’s coffers.
The initial proposal was that Community Wardens would not issue parking tickets in towns between 9am and 11am in an effort to encourage shoppers to do their business locally. However, this was amended by members to a two-hour free period at any time of the day.
