Gleeson winner earns four inarow for galway

MACHALE Park proved a favourable destination for another Galway outfit last weekend when Kevin Reidy’s ladies team were the narrowest of Connacht final victors over Mayo.
Patricia Gleeson came off the bench to kick the winning point with one minute and 30 seconds left on the clock in Castlebar, securing a fourth provincial title in-a-row for Galway following an absorbing contest.
A very different Mayo team entered the field of play last Sunday from the one that was comfortably beaten by Galway in Ballina in mid-April. Galway were expected to win with a bit to spare, but from the 15th to the 45th minute, Mayo dominated proceedings.
They won most of the breaking ball with Niamh Kelly and Aileen Gilroy driving hard at the Galway defence, and also hunted in packs whenever Galway launched an attack.
