Resistance to idea of handing tuam mayoral chain over

A SUGGESTION that the Cathaoirleach of the new Tuam Municipal District Council wear the chair worn during the terms of office of the former Town Commissioners and Town Council has received a cold response from a former local representative who has proudly worn the chain four times during his political career.
The suggestion was made at the June meeting of Tuam Municipal District Council by outgoing Cathaoirleach Pete Roche and was seconded by Cllr Sean Canney.
However, the current Chairman of Tuam Community Council, Tommy Reilly, does not agree. He told The Tuam Herald that the Municipal Council would do best to “leave well enough alone”.
