Garrafrauns teacher gives summer to help children

A YOUNG teacher from Garrafrauns is swapping her North Galway classroom for one in Ethiopia this summer.
Ita Reddington is an Early Childhood teacher at Cortoon Community and Childcare Centre outside Tuam, but is volunteering her summer to teach children in Ethiopia.
Ita, who has taught as far away as Australia and Dubai, says this is something she has dreamed of doing ever since she saw the Ethiopian famine pictures on TV as a child.
“I always wanted to go out and help try and make a difference. The images of Ethiopia and Somalia are still etched in my memory,” remarked Ita, who is currently preparing her pupils for their Montessori graduation day.
