Family of tuam lusitania victim at cobh memorial

THE Centenary commemorations to mark the sinking of the Lusitania with the loss of 1,198 lives which were held in Cobh last week were attended by relatives of the only known Tuam victim of the tragedy.
Norrie and Pete O’Grady from Belclare retraced the journey made by her grandmother Julia Stewart in 1915 when she travelled to Cobh to identify the body of her sister Bessie Hare who died in the attack a century ago this month.
Norrie told The Herald that the centenary commemoration ceremonies in Cobh on May 7 were very moving and she was impressed by the dignity of the occasion and the respect shown by the huge crowd.
