Corofin gets support from all quarters as gizmo flies the flag

COROFIN flags have been fluttering in the wind for weeks in the build up to this year’s All Ireland club football final, but one family have taken their support to new levels with their pet pony going all out to support the team.
Gizmo, a four year old pony, has been decked from head to tail in the green and yellow, even sporting a club hat and flag around his neck in his team’s honour.
Proud owner Matthew Newell, who has had the animal since he was six, decided to get Gizmo in on the act and enlisted the help of his older cousin Cathal to paint a jacket in the Corofin colours.
“Matthew would ride Gizmo every day, as do his cousins, and when we decided to go all out with the flags and the bunting we said why not dress the pony up as well,” explains Brendan Newell, Matthew’s father.
“My brother Tom flew in from New York on Monday for the match and we’re a family well used to All-Irelands, having won several titles with the show horses we bring to agricultural shows around the country.
“There’s been a brilliant reaction with cars and trucks beeping horns when they see Gizmo here in the field and several people have stopped to take pictures. So it’s great fun and all part of the build up to the big day.”

Thousands of supporters are packing their bags and getting ready to travel to Croke Park early tomorrow morning. Throw in is at 4 pm #corofinabú
