Battling win over clare a massive boost for galway hurlers national league hopes

RESILIENCE is not a quality that has been associated with Galway hurlers very often in recent years but they had enough of it last Sunday at Pearse Stadium, Salthill to see them safely over the line in their opening Allianz National League game against neighbours Clare after the visitors had seemed to have victory wrapped up.
A patchy performance by Galway saw them play well in bursts between spells when they were careless and loose in their marking duties but they led for much of the first half and managed to grab a one-point lead on the stroke of half-time before conceding control to their opponents after the break.
