Herald photographer commended at awards

This picture by Herald staff photographer Ray Ryan was one of two highly commended in the prestigious Press Photographers’ Association of Ireland awards at the weekend.

The dramatic sunset scene was captured by Ray on Tuam’s outskirts last year. The colourful photo was shortlisted in the Nature and the Environment Section.

Ray’s other highly commended photo was taken as night fell on the village of Shrule which was lit up to welcome home the newly crowned Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh.

This atmospheric photo was shortlisted in the People and Daily Life category. Ray has regularly featured in the PPAI awards and has won award categories in previous occasions.
