Antiwater charges protesters greet taoiseach in tuam

TAOISEACH Enda Kenny was jeered and heckled by a group of about 70 anti-water charge protesters as he arrived with a strong Garda presence for a Fine Gael function in Tuam on Monday night.
The Tuam Against Water Charges group had sought a brief meeting with the Taoiseach. However, speaking to The Tuam Herald, Mr Kenny said given the vicious type of remarks and signals made by some of those protesting, having a “rational” discussion amid such animated scenes would have been impossible.
Keith Crisham from Lissadyra in Tuam, spokesperson for the anti-water charges group, said they were demonstrating because “the people of Tuam have nothing more to give” and were supporting the campaign because “they had nothing more to lose”.
“This is a calm and orderly demonstration. We’re not out to cause trouble, it will be a peaceful protest,” he remarked, before the Taoiseach arrived at the hotel.
