Galway building workers driving daily to dublin

LOCAL building workers are commuting to Dublin and even to London for work as growth resumes in the building sector.
A sign of the times is building firm JJ Rhatigan & Co (JJR) starting a project in Dublin involving a team of 160 construction workers.
Padraic Rhatigan, Managing Director of the company, says “a lot of steady growth and confidence is returning to the building business” with some workers travelling daily from here to the capital and others flying back and forth weekly to schemes in London.
“We expect to have 160 workers on the site of a project in Dundrum at peak time next spring, ranging from labourers to engineers and project managers,” says Padraic, who is also confident of a further upswing in the construction business across Galway.
Hibernia REIT plc (Hibernia) has announced that it has entered a contract with JJR for the fit-out and completion of 213 partially-completed apartments at Wyckham Point, Dundrum.
