Galway’s just glamtastic

OUR boy from Ahascragh has a lot to answer for. Galway has become a real breeding ground for milliners but from the recent showcase at the Philip Treacy-designed g Hotel, it’s clear that it’s only the most talented and daring who rise above the home hobby hat makers.
The g Hotel was the ideal backdrop for a display of some of Ireland’s top fashion and millinery talents and the glamorous event for local charities put more than 400 stylish fashion-hungry bums on seats.
One of the highlights to hit the catwalk on the night was the exhibition of statement pieces from Co Galway milliners: Caithriona King from Corofin, Fiona Mangan from Athenry, Mark T Burke from Loughrea, Suzie Mahony from Loughrea and Mary White, Emily Jean O’Byrne, Edel Ramberg and Michael Mullins who are all based in Galway.
Another Galway girl whose creations turned heads on the night was Tuam’s own Joanne Hynes. The stylist and celebrity-loved designer was delighted to be back in the West to showcase her latest collection in such a luxurious yet relaxed setting.
Expect the unexpected when it comes to Joanne’s work and the latest looks have a much more relaxed fit than previous collections. Her love of embellishment with a sense of fun and luxury is still very evident and of course her famous statement collars are included as well as some interesting headpieces.
You’ll love or hate the colourful use of perspex in her autumn-winter collection but there are certainly no boundaries or rules for wearing Joanne’s clothes – it’s all about making it your own depending on your mood.
There was certainly plenty of inspiration to revamp the wardrobe, change your look and of course set off your look for the Galway summer racing season.
