Young Corrandulla independent makes impressive march to County Hall

THERE were no handouts needed by Independent candidate James Charity in this election. The barrister from Corrandulla dazzled motorists along the N17 with his posters during the campaign and it seems the wallpapering strategy paid off.
The 31-year-old barrister was “born and bred” in Corrandulla, his mother Dora (nee Kavanagh) is a native of the area while his dad, the late Jimmy Charity, was originally from Dundalk.
Charity’s rise to the Council chamber was evident from the early tallies and while party candidates were aware of his popularity during the canvass, his 1,424 first preference votes took many political pundits by surprise.
With a long-time interest in politics and studying it in NUI Galway, James says running for election has always been in his mind.
