Exciting win over Pearses a huge boost for Carnmore

Carnmore 0-16
Pádraig Pearses 2-9

CARNMORE and their loyal band of supporters haven’t had much to celebrate in recent years but they thoroughly enjoyed this hard fought win over Pádraig Pearses in the third game of last Sunday’s triple bill of Senior Hurling Championship action at Kenny Park, Athenry.
For the losers, on the other hand, it means the relegation arena after reaching the quarter-finals last year.
Supporters of Pearses and indeed of Galway were disappointed when the lion-hearted Cyril Donnellan was deemed unready to start after his long-standing groin problem and all in the game wish him well as he recovers. He has been badly missed by both club and county.
Another fine hurler who missed this game was Domhnall Fox of Carnmore who, sadly, will be out of action for much of the summer due to a shoulder injury.
A masterclass in free-taking by the ice cool Kevin Killilea proved the difference between the teams in this game as the Carnmore wing-forward landed nine scores from ten placed balls, with many of them hit from difficult angles.
Pearses, in contrast, missed a number of chances, both from play and frees, and they really cannot complain about the final result.
