CF sufferer takes on 600km cycle - on bike made for two

A TUAM woman who last year couldn’t walk up her stairs without becoming breathless is getting ready to cycle from Malin to Mizen Head to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland.
Caroline Heffernan, who has cystic fibrosis, is well known for campaigning and fundraising for CF Ireland.
Last year she noticed her condition was getting worse and that she was gradually losing lung function and it reached a stage where she was edging towards the rate when a lung transplant is considered.
“I wasn’t getting any lift from any medication. For the majority of last year I had poor lung function. It was about 40 per cent, and 30 per cent is when the word transplant gets mentioned,” explains Caroline, who is delighted that all this has changed due to a drug trial.

However, Caroline's challenge will be quite different as she will cycling on a tandem!
