Shock at plan not to rebuild bridge at ballyglunin after road works

THE surprise decision not to re-build the railway bridge at Ballyglunin as part of major upgrading works on the N63 is causing anger among councillors and locals.
The €5.5m scheme is due to start later this year and will include a footpath and cycle lane along the three-kilometre stretch of road which will connect Abbey to the new M17 motorway.
The works were also to involve the raising and replacement of Ballyglunin’s Railway Bridge but local councillors were shocked to discover the intention is now to hold off replacing the bridge until Irish Rail request the Council to do so. Councillors feel this is leaving the situation too open-ended and may result in the bridge never being replaced.
