SEVENTY guests celebrated Councillor Karey McHugh’s recent wedding in Dubrovnik and up to 300 people gathered in Tuam at the weekend to toast the happy couple.

Karey and her husband, Trevor Farag from Oranmore, fell in love with the Croatian town on a holiday a few years and once they got engaged, it was a given that it would be the venue for their nupituals.
They met in The Brogue pub on High Street, or rather at the door where Trevor was working as a bouncer.
“Of course he stopped me and asked for ID,” she laughs recalling the first time they met.
Despite being busy working in the family business, Galway Homeopathics, and being a County Councillor, Karey planned her dream wedding meticulously. Judging by its success, her hard work paid off.

She wore two wedding dresses, one bought in Thistles and the other online. The daytime dress was more traditional and full length while she wore a ballerina length one for the evening festivities.

Her five bridesmaids wore blue and were her sister, Dawn Finn, two cousins, Sara Melia and Leeanne Boyle, the groom’s sister, Sara Farag and her own best friend, Michelle Finn.
Her parents, Kevin and Della and Trevor’s parents, Bernadette and Halim, an Egyptian national, were very supportive of their decision to marry abroad.

“It was a special day surrounded by our families and friends,” said Karey, who equally enjoyed her local wedding reception in the Árd Rí House Hotel on Saturday night which was attended by the Mayor of Galway, Cllr Eileen Mannion.

The couple will be honeymooning in Dubai for the next few weeks.
