Tuam end Barna's championship run

SUBSTITUTE Ben O'Connell emerged the hero when grabbing an 82nd minute winner that sealed Tuam Stars' place in the semi-finals of the Galway Senior Football Championship for a second successive year.
No game of such magnitude should be decided by a penalty shoot-out but that's exactly where Tuam and Barna were heading until O'Connell struck in the dying embers of an absorbing battle, one that ebbed and flowed before reaching a thrilling crescendo in the second period of extra-time.
Met Éireann issued the status yellow wind warning for Galway for Saturday evening and the teams took turns playing into the gusts that whipped in from the Árus Bóthar na Trá end of Pearse Stadium. Both sides deserve massive credit for what they served up in the conditions, with some of the score-taking, particularly in the additional 20 minutes, right out of the top drawer.
