Championship first rounds so often turn into banana skins and what unfolded in an absorbing clash in Tuam Stadium played in heavy rain for long spells was a classic case of a tuned-up underdog catching a more highly-rated opponent operating several notches below their regular standards.

No two ways about it, Caherlistrane were value for their victory. They were the better, hungrier side for longer and showed plenty of character in battling back from 1-7 to 1-3 down on 36 minutes to hold Tuam scoreless and land the game's closing six points.
