GALWAY GAA have confirmed that relegation will remain part of their Senior and Intermediate Football Championship formats this year, despite recent calls to abolish it due to the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Cárna-Caiseal GAA Club issued a statement on Friday requesting that relegation be cancelled for the 2020 season and cited the support of 18 other football clubs at senior, intermediate and junior level — An Cheathrú Rua, Moycullen, Caltra, Killannin, Annaghdown, Claregalway, Menlough, Oileáin Árann, St James', St Michael's, Micheál Breathnach, An Spidéal, Ballinasloe, Monivea-Abbey, St Gabriel's, Clonbur, Killererin and Barna.
